Rug 6587 Generations: Sold, June 2009 Mae Clark Mae Clark is a weaver and poet whose exceptional creativity is expressed in this variant of the Burnham rug style that also evokes elements of the Ye’i Bi Chei design. Here, four generations of weavers greet the matriarch of their family with weavings representing their generation; the mini-skirted youngest weaver holds a Germantown Revival, her biil dress clad mother holds a Ganado Red rug, wearing a velvet blouse and broomstick skirt her grandmother carries a Transitional pattern and her great-grandmother, also clad in blouse and skirt, presents a Chief Blanket. These rug styles are also seen in insets at the borders of the rug. Mae wove the rug at a 90 degree angle to landscape perspective that it is viewed at, a difficult exercise in the visualization of the finished pattern. The rug is very tightly woven and has an impressive thread count of 42 wefts per inch.
