Woshdéé! Welcome!

Our family has been trading with the native people of the Four Corners area for five generations. We are noted for our encouragement of innovation and quality in Navajo textiles. Browse our gallery for the finest in rugs, Navajo and Zuni jewelry, Navajo and Apache basketry and other items. We carry a full line of yarns spun specifically for Navajo style weaving and other supplies for weaving in the Navajo way. Please consult our auction and show schedule to see when R.B. Burnham and Co. may be coming to a location near you or in a place where you would like to be. Let us show you the excitement of Native American art at the dawn of a new century.

The slide show at the left introduces some of the featured items from our rug and jewelry galleries. Occasionally, there may even be a picture or two that shows up that will have a link to an interesting story, so check back once in a while and see what we have changed and added. We have a busy auction and show schedule lined up as you'll see and our trading post is an interesting place to stop if you happen to be on I-40 or U.S. 191 in Sanders, Arizona. We're always glad to say yá’át’ééh (hello) to visitors and show off our gallery, wool room and ice cream counter.

Picture Gallery from Smoki Museum Winter Navajo Rug Auction

Storm Pattern by Helen Ben

Contemporary hand spun and hand carded Storm Pattern by Helen Ben of Inscription House

We’ve sorted through the 443(!) pictures that we took at last Saturday’s Smoki Museum Winter Navajo Rug Auction and selected 58 pictures that we thought you’d enjoy seeing.  The auction was quite successful, with 51% of the lots sold and over $70,000 in gross sales.  Several weavers attended and showed their work and the museum volunteers were fantastic.  We will be back in Prescott on July 22nd and July 23rd and the summer event is even larger.  Click here to see the entire picture gallery.

Smoki Museum Winter Rug Auction 2011: Ahé’hee (Thank you)!

Vintage Storm Pattern

A handsome vintage Storm Pattern variant with unusual vegetally dyed yarns.

On behalf of the Smoki Mueum, the weavers and other consignors at last weekend’s Winter Navajo Rug Auction, we would like to say “Ahé’hee”, which means thank you in the Navajo language.  The auction was well attended and bidders were enthusiastic about many of the offerings.  Because of the number of historic homes and pioneer families in the area, this auction always has a higher than average number of interesting vintage weavings and this one was no exception.  Buyers were also tempted by very high quality pieces by artists like the Spider Rock Girls, Farah Nez and Geneva Shabi.  Work of this caliber is not often available in an auction venue, but weavers are finding that auctions are a means of finding a market for their work during the slower winter season.  We’re glad to provide this opportunity for both the weavers and buyers.

We’ll have a full gallery of pictures available by Thursday, but below you’ll see our auction team after Saturday’s event! We’ll soon be gearing up for the Friends of Hubbell Native American Arts Auction on May 14th.

Thank you, Tucson! Prescott, Here We Come! Here’s a Virtual Preview

--March 7th, 2011--

This Shirley Combs Ye'i will be one of the first rugs in the Smoki Museum auction this weekend. It is is 30"x40".

Our opening auction for 2011 in Tucson was a great success with over $70,000 in sales.  We were so busy that we didn’t have a chance to take a single picture!  Thank you, Tucson for a great first year in this venue.

Continuing with our Winter auctions, we are getting the rugs together for next weekend’s Smoki Museum Winter Navajo Rug Auction and the Shirley Combs Yei Bi Chei  rug above will be one of the first rugs you’ll see on Saturday.   The auction preview runs from 10 AM until noon and the auction will start at 1 PM.   The auction will feature over 250 vintage and contemporary textiles.  The pictures below are from last year and we’re excited to see the rugs coming in for this year’s event.

If you are a weaver with a rug to consign, please contact Sheri Burnham by email or at (928) 688-2777.
